A message from
Executive Director, Tina Horrigan.
Recently we all read and hear the phrase “stay safe, stay home” with many recommendations of how to do both. At our Barry County Cares office we continue to have a building lock-down to guests yet we are still serving the community through non-physical contact methods. The food pantries are also using safety and non-contact practices.
The number of requests is down, in the office and at the food pantries. We’re stepping up our outreach so people know of our services. Every day our office is receiving emails and calls from individuals and churches wondering how they can help. Monetary donations are recommended as we’re continuously updating effective ways to stay sanitary and stocked to meet upcoming needs.
These are challenging times. Some of our volunteers are temporarily stepping away from their dedicated serving. We miss them, yet understand and support their current needs to stay distanced. These are times of fear and frustration. How many more lives will be taken by the Coronavirus? Will a vaccine successfully save many other lives?
Keep up the prayers. We’re in the healthiest state of being when communicating with God. Philippians 4: 6-7 (King James) “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

How you can help.
Barry County Cares continues to help people with needs other than food. Due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, levels of unemployment are rising. Requests for assistance are expected to increase in the coming months. Barry County Cares helps connect people with assistance for utility bills, housing/rent, medical/dental, and household/personal care items.
