BARRY COUNTY CARES

Our History

• Barry County Cares (BCC) began as a chapter of Love INC in Barry County in 1984 under the directorship of Rev. Steve Reid. 

• The organization left Love INC in 2013 and became Barry County Cares. 

• Tina Horrigan became executive director in 2015.

 

Our Mission

• “Assisting People to Find the Help They Need As We Share in Christ’s Love”

• Barry County Cares is a faith-based community non-profit that seeks the cooperation of local churches, individuals and businesses to help people in need in Barry County.

 

Our Services

• Food Pantries:  BCC supports five food pantries in Barry County with intake and referral services.

• Personal Care/Household Items: BCC provides personal care and household supplies to people in need.

​

• Other Assistance:  BCC works with churches, agencies, and organizations to provide assistance with:

  • Housing/rent

  • Utility bills

  • Transportation

  • Clothing

  • Other needs

• BCC provides intake and eligibility screening for churches and other organizations to clarify the circumstances of people.

 

Our Role in the community

• BCC connects churches and community groups with people in need.

• BCC “fills in the gap” for local agencies such as Department of Health and Human Services and United Way by providing assistance for people who may not qualify for public programs.

 

Resources

• BCC receives no funding from grants or government agencies.  We are supported exclusively by donations from:

  • Churches (approx. 51%)

  • Individuals (approx. 31%)

  • Community Organizations (approx. 15%)

  • Businesses (approx. 3%)
